What a day.....
Thanks to all of you that left kind comments on yesterday's post, it's nice to know you've made a connection with people, sometimes it's easy to forget that when it's just you and a microphone in a studio somewhere.
Yesterday continued on its merry way after the show had finished, a little lunch, some cake (thanks Marsha)and 40 winks, then off to the first of two DJ gigs, Planet Hop at the Light Bar in Shoreditch. wicked gig, played some SERIOUS tunes: "Lisa Baby" by Father MC, the new M.I.A. single, lots of Diplo remixes (the Turbulence one is incredible) and found the time to play "Drum Pan Sound" by Reggie Steppa as well, which always makes my day.
Once that was over, it was into a cab and over to the Islington Academy to DJ at the 25Th anniversary Theatre Of Hate gig....more serious tunes, this time from a different direction: "H-Eyes" by the Ruts (with the crowd singing along!) "Future Daze" by Penetration, "Fatman" by Southern Death Cult and "Emergency" by 999...
TOH were on top form, they played a blistering version of "Nero" that stopped me in my tracks, the years just fell away as I remembered taping it off the Peel show in my bedroom in Wiltshire as a 14 year-old kid....
And today? Well, I'm in a secret London bunker location, working on "The Project" (see below) It's sounding great, looking great, and it's a beautiful day in London Town (from what limited view I have of the sky)
Change is in the air.

It's a momentous day today.
Why?
It's time for my last show on Xfm. Over the last few months i'd been increasingly marginalised at the station (which isn't really an issue, those of you with long memories will remember it's happened before) but there was somthing else: I'd stopped believing in Xfm. The tone of the station changed, it's ethos shifted, and certain elements of the content clashed with what I thought we should be representing.
So, it's with a heavy heart but a very clear conscience that i'm finally leaving.
There may be some of you that are wondering where i'll fetch up next....
Well, I can't really tell you exactly where it will be (there's a certain element of secrecy involved) but, a couple of points....
1) It's not another radio station.
2) It's got something to do with the web.
3) It'll be AMAZING.
There'll be URL's and e-cards soon, there will be explanations and exhortations to join me, but not just yet ;)
Any questions?

Sunday Morning....
And i'm in the studio, doing the show. It's lost a lot of its sparkle, this radio thing; for one thing, Razorlight are absolutely dreadful. With a hangover and a fuzzy head, they are starting to resemble the devil.

Hey Neato!

This one's for you:

I love it when people fire off a great rant.......
Even more so when it's pertinent, well thought out and debunks every myth about having to buy new technology just for the sake of it.
Stop buying products that serve any other master than you.
Related: Don't bother with the iphone, either.
Today has been, if I'm honest, a singularly depressing sort of a day. The weather is closing in over my head; slate-grey and silver clouds teem with fat droplets of dirty rain, the roads are like shiny black snakes, squirming their oily curves beneath the river of cars trying to avoid the western limits of the congestion zone. Work is a tightrope walk between the technical back-end and the brand-management of the on-air strategy and I'm finding it hard to stifle my sighs.

More on Hilary Clinton....
(FYI: she's been using "RHRN" as a campaign song)
Hilary Finds Jesus (Jones)
Other things that've been keeping me interested this week........
What do you think is the interesting thing about this young lady?
Well, she's not real, that's what. Completely computer-generated. Unbelievable.
This is where I'm heading.
And here is the absolute motherlode of cat photos: including all you could ever want from the "Here I am, _______ in Ur ________, __________ Ur _________" meme
And for all of those who are still confused, here's the mighty MeFi on the same topic
Other stuff that's been going on this week....well, there was an Idlewild session in Islington on Tuesday night; I was struck by just HOW GOOD they were: after the last gig I saw them play (at the Shepherds Bush Empire) which was shockingly bad. The gig this week was chock-full of louche charm, a swaggering selection of all their hits, and a cautious bonhomie with the crowd that was really endearing. The new album is great AND they're involved in a collaborative poetry album project at the moment as well: was there ever a strategy LESS designed to get in the NME? For that reason alone, they deserve your undying love.

Apologies....
It's been way too long, i've been lazy, I know.
In my defence, it's all been kicking off at Westway towers since the start of this new year; there's loads of things up in the air, lots of possibilities floating around in the ether, i'm just waiting for a little crystallisation.
Sorry to be so vague, but you'll know more soon, I hope.
One of the things that HAS been occupying my time is Middle Age Shred; it's a web-site and forum for old skaters like me: it's great to know there's a like-minded group of people whose legs ache like mine, who crave wider boards and old-school moves....
I've also got myself sorted out with a USB turntable, so i'll do my best to post up some of the tracks i've ripped from vinyl :)
What was the first thing I ripped? "Jack And Jill" by Victims Of Pleasure. It's an old piece of 80's synth-pop featuring Virginia astley on piano......
So, what's happening today? Well, i've re-jigged one of my old set-ups: I've changed the trucks on my Doug Smith "Bomb" from aggro Trackers to indy 159's. I'd like 169's, but there a nightmare to get for a board with old-school mounting patterns...
Whatever, the board'll now ride like a dream, so i'm going to introduce it to the seafront a little later on.......

Oh bloody hell it's been a while...
My apologies, it's been a little *hectic* in my life at the moment. More soon, but for now, it's youtube time. And it's time for The Gonz. How does he do this stuff? I'll never know. Check out:
1) Gonz putting his foot UNDER A CAR TYRE at the beginning of this video. If I did that...broken foot. Period.
2) That trick where he just walks along the bench. GENIUS.
3) Gonz trying to explain positivity and negativity at the end.

...and the reason i'm so psyched about it...
is that i've got that painting at home. Marcus Thompson (the artist responsible for the "Who Where Why" video) made that painting for EMI to show what he wanted to make the video look like. A few months later, I was in the EMI offices and saw it sitting at the back of a pile of old records and other odd rubbish. I distracted their attention, grabbed the painting and took it home. All the members of the band have got some of the wooden figures from the video (Isambard Kingdom Brunel with Beethoven's head, that sort of thing) but I got the painting. Rah!!!!
